Trust: Losing It and Gaining It Back

This paper addresses trust and all the issues around it such as what happens to have trust lost, the consequences when trust is lost, how trust may be gained, and a strategy to engage in to regain lost trust. Trust is a big deal and should not be overlooked.

What exactly is trust? It may be a feeling or a cause and effect sort of thing. Certainly, one may not say it itself does not exist. Since it may be lost and gained, it is perceived in the actions of humans as they live their lives. Yet, nobody can actually understand the idea of trust. The Oxford dictionary defines trust as a strong certainty in the veracity, dependability, or capability of something or someone. According to Haselhuhn, Kennedy, Kray, Van Zant, and Schweitzer (2015), trust is the approval of the truth of a proclamation minus investigation or evidence. Ikonen, Savolainen, Lopez-Fresno, and Kohl (2016), on the other hand, defines trust as certain reliance on the ability, character, truth or strength of something or someone. Trust is an awareness of confidence in somebody’s responsibility, loyalty, that extra will not irritate you or use you. Nevertheless, in life, not everybody can encounter this feeling, as for this you should be completely confident in the individual. Trust may take on several meanings in contemporary society. It may be existent in every aspect of humans’ lives and may have an intense effect on an individual’s personality.

Trust is a very unusual thing to find in this life presently but when one finds it and is able to also offer it in return their life is way better and extra satisfying for everybody involved (D’Cruz, 2019). One is a happier individual since they are at ease being able to disappoint their guard and let themselves to be susceptible with persons in their life whether they are friends, family, persons one is intimate with, co-workers, or even persons that they share a way of life with. Similarly, the individuals in one’s life may look at them and see somebody that is assertive not only in themselves but likewise in their life and where it is heading.

It takes effort and time to create trust. It takes going the superfluous mile to indicate that one is somebody who can be relied upon. Unfortunately, it could be broken in a split second of doing something to let somebody down. Trust may be broken due to dishonoured expectations (Ikonen, Savolainen, Lopez-Fresno, and Kohl, 2016). This happens when the trustor’s assured affirmative expectations of the trustee are disconfirmed. These violations lead to lower consequent trust and might reduce the level to which there exists no trust between the parties involved. In some situations, one trust violation might severely destroy or irreparably destroy trust. In other situations, a single trust violation might not be that detrimental when regarded in isolation.

D’Cruz (2019) asserts that trust should be handled with kid gloves. It should be accorded the attention it merits minus missing one beat. However, when trust is broken it may or may not be fixed based on the circumstances. Basically, there is just one practical reaction to somebody who has broken the other party’s trust; forgiveness. However, people should likewise learn the hard way from the occurrence and not trust everybody. The one who has broken the trust should make an effort to be trusted again. This could be done by being their best self and trying to always be there for another party. The former should, however, not try to justify the incident that broke the initial trust between them. Regaining trust is, nevertheless, the hardest thing to do since a person may think that they would be betrayed again.

Trusting individuals may hurt sometimes since they betray them but they learn from the circumstance and proceed to the subsequent adventure in their life by not allowing one bad individual or circumstance bring one down and turn one into an unfeeling individual that others really run from since they do not know how or do not want to trust other individuals (Haselhuhn, Kennedy, Kray, Van Zant, and Schweitzer, 2015). No, trusting is not usually easy particularly if one is letting themselves to trust somebody that has hurt them in the past.  However, if one actually feel in their heart that trusting this individual to gain the lost trust is worth it then there must be no reason that it should be difficult that they cannot progress through it mutually. People should not allow small obstacles along the way throw them back to being unfeeling and not trusting. People should just keep forging ahead and they will have a delightfully satisfying life that will be full with good persons that are trustworthy and care.

Generally, trust is the act of having faith and believing in somebody, and believing that somebody ‘will do right by you’. Trust is both a logical and emotional thing, for it may be the determining aspect of whether or not somebody you care for is actually who you think they are, and how you see them is the way they actually look. It may similarly cause an individual to gain wisdom, from past occurrences to foretell how specific things will turn out with someone else. Once trust is broken, it may leave individuals hurt and confused, and occasionally relationships are never the same. Trust is an essential aspect of human nature, and it could break holds, besides make them stronger.
