The main aim of this paper is to examine why people die in sleep critically. Death in sleep would pose several questions to the bereaved family, especially if the person had no health problem. Several things can happen to an individual, for example, when one closes eyes and become unconscious (Steiner, 2010). It is so unfortunate that some people never wake up again. Sleep is the passive activity that takes place on its own. There are many causes behind people dying in sleep.
The first cause is Old age. The body cells of an individual stop functioning correctly as one gets old, and this leads to the body systems not operating at all (Valera, 2016). For instance, an old person may lose appetite for certain foods, and this may, in turn, make the immune system much weaker. Most old persons die from heart-related diseases.
The next cause is Drugs and alcohol. Drugs and alcohol profoundly affect a person’s health. Besides, they are known to interfere with one’s sleep cycle (Walker, 2017). The overdose of drugs and alcohol significantly affect one’s immune system and thus weakening it. This may make an individual vulnerable to infections. Drugs and alcohol may as well change the breathing system, and this may cause the unexpected death of an individual during sleep. This is as a result of the death of cells that controls breathing in the brain.
The other cause is Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome, which is usually connected to heart issues among the young and the elderly (Walker, 2018). It is a genetic heart condition that and is known to also affect those without a history of the heart diseases in their family. The syndrome causes the sudden death of an individual during sleep. Overall, cases of people dying in sleep are increasing drastically. Death is inevitable, and people should not live in fear.
