PLOT SUMMARY OF HIDDEN FIGURES
Hidden figures explain the story of three African-American women who functioned as computer processors to elucidate challenges for engineers and others at NASA. The workstation was separated, and females were kept in the background as human laptops. The key themes that emerge from the movie of hidden figures are racism, sexism, and social influence.
Lack of correspondence of women, mostly the African Americans, in education, workplace, and daily life as a whole (Ikawati, 2018). The movie encourages governance development—eliminating racial segregation and the perception of women’s feminism in the community. There is the necessity to make an effort for inclusion. It can be demonstrated by providing equal opportunities and a secure working environment for all workers regardless of race.
Moreover, women’s feminism is evident due to various acts of avoiding women in a brief meeting (Shetterly, Conkling& Freeman, 2018). However, a change becomes inevitable when a mathematician named Katherine Johnson defies a meeting that has never been open to women. She challenges the group’s think and the stereotypes that revolve around the world on women’s governance by proving that there was no procedure for men to dominate the world.
Consequently, social influence and conformity are how personalities alter their behavior to accomplish a communal situation’s requirements. Conformity is one consequence of the impact of others on their opinions, moods, and comportments. An additional communal inspiration arrangement is compliance to power (Shetterly, Conkling& Freeman, 2018). Obedience is the modification of a personality’s behavior to submit to a demand by a powerful character. Individuals frequently obey the appeal since they are apprehensive about a result if they do not obey.
Furthermore, supporting others, especially at the workplace, can be properly demonstrated by mentoring other workers. Dorothy encouraged other women to take up leadership altogether and mentored others to develop their talents and enhance their leadership skills. On the other hand, pro-social behavior entails deliberate actions aimed at helping different individuals (Ikawati, 2018). Through the deeds of assisting, sharing, and donating to others in the leadership role depicts pro-social behavior’s key theme.
Therefore, the hidden figures movie demonstrates various themes to the audience and goes far beyond to depict the movie’s importance to the world by giving a real-world situation.
