The article aims to explore the importance of cultivating the spirit of engagement and partnership among the students. Out of personal experience as a student, the author explains the need for transition from student engagement to partnerships. Students as partners focus on the social and rational elements of mutual learning (Matthews Kelly). This is unlike the student engagement that is only focused on academic performance. In the 21st century, people should be obligated to their communities. Similarly, students should be engaged in their universities through effective partnerships. There should be more collaborative forms of engagement between students and institutions to ensure effective learning (Matthews Kelly). The partnership between academics and students in conversations around learning activities and curricular decisions defines the effectiveness of higher education. It reveals the willingness to co-create learning experiences by making decisions based on the varying perspectives and creativity of both academics and students. However, not all student engagement activities are important for partnerships, hence the language of the partnership should be well understood. Indeed, students are members of the community of higher education and should be significantly engaged through effective partnerships between students and staff.
