Yes, the digital divide changes or influences the way people think about themselves in relation to the rest of the world. First of all, the term digital divide refers to the inequality or rather the gap existing between people, societies or countries as far as accessibility of technology and Internet Services is concerned. the use of the internet and technology, in general, differs from country to country and society to society. According to the “Digital Divide in a Global Economy,” among unconnected people, a quarter of them were between 50 and 64 years old. Since technology is ever-growing and the societies become more driven technological, these immigrants regard themselves at a disadvantaged position to the rest of the world. Furthermore, many corporations now demand word processing knowledge and data processing abilities. This implies that the people of the digitally connected age think that they are advantaged.

 

  1. What barriers exist that make it difficult to close the digital divide in developing economies like India and China? What barriers exist in a developed country such as America?

 

Yes, there are indeed barriers that exist in developing countries that lead to more digital divide society in those countries. the digital divide in developing countries can further be sub-divided into four categories namely: material access, benefits access, skills, and user access and lastly institutional access. Within the developing countries, barriers to internet digital life include; expensive internet connection. Even though the internet can be accessed via mobile phone devices. It is only a few wealthy individuals who can adequately afford internet in the developed countries. whereas in developed countries such as America, the barriers to internet access and usage is not about accessibility but rather the skills that an individual has. The Internet is accessible in every corner of the streets and even public shops. Sadly, there is still some computer illiterate people in America

 

  1. Do you agree that educators have to keep abreast of the technological changes and adjust the curriculum accordingly?  (justify and support your answer).

Yes, I agree that Education must keep abreast of the constantly changing technologies and educators should adjust the curriculum to respond to the changing tech. Technology positively impacts today’s student in engagement with learning materials technologically, students can learn and retain more information. According to Marc Prensky 2001, students in today’s error are regarded as digital language “native speakers”. They know all the about technologies as afar as computers, video games, and the Internet is concerned. merging technology and education will help modern students stay engaged in educational matters. Tablets and smartphones have replaced the old school toys, and most of the students have been using these devices such as to play toys since they could crawl. Therefore it is logical to align today’s education and curriculum with the way students want and enhance learning.
